Harry E. Schneider, 91, of Springfield, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, Fountain Campus.

He was born in Springfield on July 3, 1916 the son of Harry and Ida (Newcomb) Schneider.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School. Harry was a veteran of WWII serving four years, nine months with the Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an avid outdoorsman having hunted and trapped in early in life and later enjoyed working in his garden and around his farm. He retired from Railway Express after 25 years of service where he worked at the east end of the old Big Four Depot. He previously retired from Schaefer's Bakery following 22 years of service. Harry was a life member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the National Rifle Association as well as a member of the Ohio Gun Collector's Association.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Diana Schneider of Springfield; six grandchildren, David (Lynna) Schneider of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Stephen (Katherine) Schneider of Bristol, Tennessee, and Brad Hall, Dan Hall, Ethan Schneider, and Sara Schneider, all of Springfield; and two great grandchildren, Zoie and Ian Schneider.

Also surviving is a niece, Barbara Larson; nephews, Gary Westfall and Walter (Susie) Smith; and a close cousin, Carolyn Toops. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 53 years, Ruth N. (Huffman) Schenider in 1995; two sons, Alan Schneider in 1988 and Stephen Schneider in 2004; two sisters, Jeanette Schneider and Alice Westfall; and a brother, Horace Schneider.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Ray Harper officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
