Erma Hyser

Erma (Baker) Hyser, 84, of Springfield, passed peacefully from life on this earth at her home Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2008, surrounded by her only child, Dianne Pullins, her son-in-law, Ed, sister Vera, dear Pastor, John Wilson, family and friends including her devoted care giver, Annette Howard.

She had an unwavering devotion to her husband of over 60 years, Walter, who preceded her in death. Erma was a private person whose life revolved around her husband, family, home, and in her early years, her church, First Christian Church. Of her many talents were growing fabulous flowers and a couturier seamstress making all of her daughter and grandson’s early clothes. However, her greatest joy was cooking fabulous meals for her family, especially at holidays you could always count on a real feast. Erma, better known as David’s Nana, rejoiced in David, Cambridge, Massachusetts, her only grandchild, as was devoted to him. He was truly the light of her life. She taught him the joy of antiquing, which they always did at a drop of the hat right up to her death.

Erma had three sisters and two brothers she loved very much. Vera Mendenhall of Springfield, Eileen Baker, deceased, Freida Massie, deceased, Roger and Marvin Baker, deceased and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her father, Grover Baker, mother, Roxie (Jenkins) and stepfather, Ralph Nawman.

She was a shining star, the center of our family’s universe, which is now extinguished. Erma is already sadly missed. She will never be forgotten and will always be loved.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Pastor John Wilson officiating, visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Improvement Fund at 1st Christian Church, 3682 Middle Urbana Rd., Springfield, OH 45503
