Dorothy R. Browne

Dorothy R. Gilbert Browne, 91, died Saturday, May 31st in Spokane, Washington.

Born September 29, 1916 in Toledo Ohio, daughter of Dale Edward and Anne R Gilbert, she graduated from DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, Wellesley College and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, Boston. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, Young Woman’s Mission, Clark Memorial Home Association and for 12 years a member of the Clark Home Board; she was also a member of the Mayflower Society, the Springfield Museum of Art, the Springfield Country Club, a charter member of Colonial Dames of America Chapter XVII, and a past president of the Junior Service League and the Monday Afternoon Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bitner Browne.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Franklin and Linda Browne of Spokane, Washington, daughter, Dale Ann Compton of Bellevue, Washington; six grandchildren Matthew (Amy) Compton of Portland, Oregon, Sarah (Chad) Tuttle of Seattle, Washington, Andrew (Carrie) Browne and Katie (Kevin) Fletcher both of Bellevue, Washington, John (Linda) DiFrancesco of Epping, New Hampshire and Rob (Mary Beth) DiFrancesco of Parker, Colorado, 14 great-grandchildren and nieces Jennifer Carter and Kathy Bundy.

She was a cohesive spirit and the glue that kept her geographically widespread family together.

Memorial services will be held Monday, June 16, 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Charlotte Reed officiating. Private internment preceding in Ferncliff Cemetery.

The family is being served by Richards, Raff and Dunbar Memorial Home.
