Dirk G. Wood, M.D., J.D., 54 of St. Joseph, MI, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 in his residence.

He was born September 19, 1953 in Springfield, OH to Carlos "Pack" and Evelyn "Birdie" (Bird) Wood.

He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1971, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Urbana College in 1973, was a M.S. Candidate at the Department of Zoology at The Ohio State University, graduated from U.A.G. Medical School in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1980 and received his Law Degree from Capital University in 1991. Dirk worked as a resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1982-1986 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan and received the American Medical Association Approved Fifth Pathway Program Certificate in 1981 from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He served on many boards in Springfield including the Chair of Obstetrics at Mercy Medical Center, Chief Collaborating Physician at the Nurse Midwives' Center and at Private Practice Hercare, Inc. Dirk achieved many certifications and licenses including Diplomate from American Board of Forensic Medicine since 1996, Board Eligible, Legal Medicine in 1991, Diplomate from American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1988-2006 and his full, unrestricted licensure in Medicine and Surgery in the State of Michigan.

Survivors include his mother, Evelyn "Birdie" Wood of Springfield, OH; uncles, Van Bird and Howard O. "Hobby" Hohn; cousins, Ann and Jackie Hohn and David Bird.

Private services will be held Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
