Lt. Colonel Daniel Jude Witt, 42, passed away after an accident on Friday, May 30, 2008.

Dan was born December 5, 1965, in Youngstown, Ohio and was the youngest child of Howard and Barbara Witt.

He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1984 and the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Chemistry in 1988 and earned his Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle University in 1996. Dan was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1988 and served his country proudly for 20 years flying the T-37 (Vance AFB), C-130 (Youngstown ARS), C-141 and C-5 (Wright Patterson AFB). He flew numerous medical evacuation and supply missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal and multiple other awards. Dan also flew commercially for Delta Airlines. Dan was an avid reader and runner who loved fishing, camping and flying airplanes.

He was a devoted husband and father leaving his wife, Colonel Lisa Witt, USAFR, and three children, Eva Marie, Eric Daniel and Peter Samuel. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Barbara and Joe Viti of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; sisters, Juliana (Bill) Sofranko, Rebecca (Pat) Lowry, Marie (Michael) Dockry and brother Christopher (Lisa) Witt all of Youngstown; and brothers, David (Rachel) Witt of Monroe, Thomas (Marsha) Witt of Cincinnati, James (Julie) Witt of Akron and Charles (Kim) Witt of Springfield; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Lorraine Boyer; sisters-in-law, Loretta Nall, Terry (Roger) Freeman, Kim Walker, Traci Jones and Leslie Conley and brother-in-law, James (Tammy) Nall, all of Springfield; aunts, Helen Witt and Betty Thomas; uncles Reverend William and Fred Witt and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Witt.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in St. Raphael Church, Springfield. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Yellow Springs, followed by an open reception at St. Paul Church, Yellow Springs.
