Charlotte C. Henning

Charlotte C. Henning, age 89, of Springfield, died Thursday, December 4, 2008.

She was born November 15, 1919, the daughter of Cassius Bannister and Helen Swasey Conrad in Sycamore, Illinois. She has resided in Springfield since 1956.

She is preceded in death by her husband William C. Henning who passed away in December of 2004.

She is survived by two daughters Dr. Peggy Henning Berlin and Helen Henning Boddy, their husbands Dr. Jan Berlin and William Boddy and four grandchildren, Geoffrey Ross Berlin, Lara Nicole Berlin, Adam Christopher Boddy and David Michael Boddy, all of southern California.

Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Henning served as secretary to Illinois Supreme Court Justice William Fulton. In Springfield she was employed as a social worker for the Clark County Children Services, Town and Country Adult Services and the Springfield City Schools. Mrs. Henning was an active community member throughout her life. While attending the University of Illinois, where she graduated with a BA degree in Sociology, she held leadership positions in her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, in the University YWCA and in Motor Board women’s honorary society. Locally, Mrs. Henning was active for over fifty years in first the Snowhill and then Highlands United Church of Christ. She belonged to the Young Women’s Mission, Kiwaniannes and served for thirty years as a member of the Salvation Army Board.

The family will receive friends in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME 2425 N. Limestone St. Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 2 until 4 pm. Funeral service to be held 10am Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Highlands United Church of Christ 1910 St. Paris Pike, with Rev. Gary Percesepe officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Rose Hill Burial Park.
