Bernard H. Koch

Bernard H. Koch, 86, of Springfield died in his home, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 following several months of failing health.

He was born July 5, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina the son of Bernard H., Sr. and Lillian H. (Behrens) Koch.

Mr. Koch received his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Wittenberg University and earned his Master’s Degree from Hamma School of Divinity. He pursued a career as a Lutheran minister and later taught English, French and Latin at the High School level. Mr. Koch then went to work as a tool and die maker for Wickham Piano Plate until his retirement. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the International Order of Odd Fellows, serving as their chaplain.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Lawrence Landess of Mechanicsburg; one grandson Andy and his wife Gabriella Brannan of Westerville, Ohio; three great grandchildren Aidan, Austin and Aliyah; two sisters Charlotte Stehmeyer and Adeline Rodeman of Charleston, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby in 1998; son Fred Koch in 1996 and a sister Selma Gunter.

The family will receive visitors Saturday from 11:30 AM. until 1:00 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Dan Reihing officiating. Interment will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
