Anna May McGrath

Anna May McGrath, 72, of Columbus and formerly of Springfield died April 2, 2008 in Columbus.

She was born July 15, 1935 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, the daughter of Lynn and Alice (Luking) Hannum.

She retired from Springview Developmental Center in 1995 after 20 years of service. Ann was a former member of St. Joseph Church where she was active in her children’s school activities. She served as festival co-chairperson, softball coach, school volunteer, had a passion and talent for flower arranging and was an accomplished knitter. She enjoyed playing euchre and was especially fond of her years in card club. More recently her life was filled with attending her grandsons’ sporting events and school plays. In her later years, Ann traveled with family and friends including several trips to Europe, one with her good friend Carole (Shartran) Knapp. Ann is remembered for her ability to whip up a wonderful dinner with whatever food was in the house. Her cherry coffee cake will be missed at Easter.

She is survived by her children, Kevin McGrath, Burlington, Vermont, Betsy (Ben) Lindsey, Elaine (John) Zawada and Doug McGrath, all of Columbus; four grandsons who affectionately knew her as “Nanny”, Benson Lindsey III, Greg Lindsey, Jack Zawada and Andrew Zawada; loving nieces and nephews, George McGrath, Michael (Janice) McGrath, Kathleen McGrath, Tim McGrath, Erin (Rick) Shook, Theresa (Joe) Scardino, Nancy (Terry) Daly, Maureen White and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 2 sister-in-laws, Helen C. McGrath and Shirley M. McGrath and a brother-in-law, George N. McGrath.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Glen Helen Ecology Institute, 405 Corry Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387.
