Albert N. Gootee 82, of Springfield died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 in Good Shepherd Village.

He was born November 15, 1925 in Loogootee, IN the son of Silas and Golden (Glasswell) Gootee.

He retired in 1985 from the Springfield News & Sun after thirty-five years of service. He was a member of St. Bernard Church, life member of VFW #1031 and a former member of the F.O.E. #397, Union Club and was a WW2 US Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years Mary L. (Houvouras), four children and spouses, Sandra and Jim Ewing, Preston, CN, Albert N. Gootee II, Dayton, OH, Trish and Nick DiDonato, Hartville, OH, Keith and Lois Gootee, Springfield; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Warren Lyons, Enon, OH; brother and sister-in-law Harold “Jack” and Ann Gootee, MN; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Dorothy, Erma and Margie, three brothers Robert, Donald and Silas Jr.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
